  17. XTRDOS.EXE contains the DOS environment patch release E for Xtrieve PLUS v4.10
  18. and v4.11a programs and utilities, the DOS environment patches for the XQLP
  19. v2.11a and XQLPO v2.11a programs, and the optional DOS environment patches for
  20. the XQLP and XQLPO programs.

  63.           NOTE:     In this document, XQLP and XQLPO are referred to
  64.                     collectively as XQLP(O).

  66.      This patch is cumulative and includes updates for both v4.10 and v4.11. 
  67.      If you have Xtrieve PLUS v4.10, read this entire document.  If you have
  68.      Xtrieve PLUS v4.11, read "Installation Procedure" and then skip to
  69.      "Xtrieve PLUS v4.11 for DOS."
  70.  
  71.      The PATCHXTR.BAT and PATCH.EXE files discussed in this procedure require
  72.      DOS v2.1 or later.
  73.  
  74.      The Xtrieve PLUS for DOS patch set contains the following:
  75.  
  76.           -    This Readme document
  77.           -    PATCH.EXE (a utility Novell provides for installing product
  78.                patches)
  79.           -    PATCHXTR.BAT (a batch file to facilitate patch installation)
  80.           -    Patch files for Xtrieve PLUS (XTRIEVE.410 and XTRIEVE.411,
  81.                which you use to patch versions 4.10 or 4.11) and for XQLP(O)
  82.                (XQLP.21A and XQLPO.21A)
  83.           -    Replacement files (files with the same names as the files they
  84.                replace)
  85.  
  86.      To update Xtrieve PLUS, complete the following steps:
  87.  
  88.      1.   Create a directory on your system, and copy the XTRDOS.EXE file to
  89.           that directory.
  90.  
  91.      2.   Use the utility PKUNZIP.EXE to unzip the zipped files.
  92.  
  93.      3.   Install the patch files as follows:
  94.  
  95.           a.   Refer to the list of patch files in the section of this Readme
  96.                file entitled "Original File Information," find the original
  97.                files on your system, and ensure that your original files match
  98.                those listed.
  99.  
  100.           NOTE:     This patch is cumulative; it contains all previous patches
  101.                     to Xtrieve PLUS v4.10 and Xtrieve PLUS v4.11.
  102.  
  103.                Whether you have the original XTRIEVE.EXE from the 4.10 release
  104.                or from the 4.11 release, you will still apply the same
  105.                patches.
  106.  
  107.                Again, please use the original file information specific to the
  108.                version of Xtrieve PLUS you are patching.
  109.  
  110.           b.   Use the DOS COPY command to copy the original file into the
  111.                directory that contains the unzipped patch files from
  112.                XTRDOS.EXE.
  113.  
  114.           c.   Run PATCHXTR XTRDOS.  (Entering PATCHXTR without any parameters
  115.                displays a usage screen that lists all the parameters.)
  116.  
  117.                PATCHXTR verifies that you are patching the original released
  118.                version of the software, applies the patch, and gives the
  119.                original file an .ORG extension.
  120.  
  121.           d.   Use the DOS COPY command to copy the patched file back to the
  122.                original file's directory.
  123.  
  124.      4.   Install the replacement files as follows:
  125.  
  126.           a.   Find the directory that contains the original files to be
  127.                replaced.
  128.  
  129.           b.   Before copying the replacement files, back up the original
  130.                files to a diskette or to another directory.
  131.  
  132.           c.   Use the DOS COPY command to replace the original files with the
  133.                new files.
  134.  
  135.      5.   After applying the patches, you can remove the directory you created
  136.           to store the XTRDOS.EXE file.  You may also want to verify the
  137.           version numbers when you load each program.  The version numbers
  138.           should match those listed in the next section, "Patch File
  139.           Information."
  140.  
  141.      IMPORTANT:     As mentioned above, if you patch v4.10, your current
  142.                     version of Xtrieve PLUS becomes v4.11a.  When you are
  143.                     ready to patch v4.11, perform Steps 3 through 5 again,
  144.                     using the information provided for Xtrieve PLUS v4.11.
